Greetings

Chapter 2: Greetings

Every day we meet people — our parents, teachers, friends, and neighbours. We say special words to them when we meet or when we leave. These words are called greetings. Saying greetings makes people happy and shows that we are polite and caring.

---

Key Concepts

Greeting: A greeting is a friendly word or phrase we say when we meet someone or say goodbye.

  • Common greetings:
  • Good morning — said in the morning
  • Good afternoon — said in the afternoon
  • Good evening — said in the evening
  • Good night — said before sleeping or leaving at night
  • Hello / Hi — said any time to greet someone
  • Goodbye / Bye — said when leaving

Polite words: Greetings are polite words. Being polite means being kind and respectful to others.

Time of day: We choose our greeting based on what time of day it is. Morning, afternoon, and evening are different parts of the day.
