Which Season is it?

Do you enjoy watching the weather change? In summer it is hot, in winter it is cold, and in the rainy season it rains a lot. This chapter helps us understand time — days, months, seasons, and the calendar.

Days of the Week

There are 7 days in a week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
After Sunday, Monday comes again.

Months of the Year

There are 12 months in a year:
January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

Number of Days in Each Month

  • Most months have 30 or 31 days.
  • February has 28 days (29 days in a leap year).

Seasons in India

  1. 1.India has three main seasons:
  2. 2.Summer — hot weather (March to June)
  3. 3.Rainy Season (Monsoon) — lots of rain (July to October)
  4. 4.Winter — cool/cold weather (November to February)

Reading a Calendar

  • A calendar shows all the days and months of the year. We can use it to find:
  • What day a date falls on.
  • How many days are in a month.
  • Which month comes before or after another.
Example 1

If today is Monday, what day will it be after 3 days?
Step 1: Monday → Tuesday (1) → Wednesday (2) → Thursday (3).
Answer: Thursday.

Example 2

How many days are in March?
Step 1: March is a month with 31 days.
Answer: 31 days.

Example 3

Which month comes just after June?
Step 1: Count months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July ...
Answer: July.

Example 4

Ravi has a holiday on the 3rd Saturday of a month. If the 1st Saturday falls on the 7th, when is his holiday?
Step 1: 1st Saturday = 7th. 2nd Saturday = 7 + 7 = 14th. 3rd Saturday = 14 + 7 = 21st.
Answer: Ravi's holiday is on the 21st.

Example 5

School holidays are in the month of May. Which season is it?
Step 1: May falls in the months March to June.
Answer: It is Summer.

Key Points

  • 7 days = 1 week
  • 12 months = 1 year
  • February: 28 days (leap year: 29 days)
  • Summer: March–June; Rainy: July–October; Winter: November–February

Common mistakes

Do not confuse the order of days or months. Always count carefully when finding the next day or month. Remember February is the shortest month.
