Madhu's Wish

This lesson tells the story of a young girl named Madhu who has a special wish. Through Madhu's story, we learn how wishes can teach us about kindness, hope, and what truly makes us happy.

About the Story

Madhu is a girl who thinks carefully about what she wants most. Her wish shows us that the best wishes are not always about things we want for ourselves — sometimes the most beautiful wish is for others to be happy too.

New Words

  • Wish – something you hope or want to happen
  • Hope – a feeling that something good will come
  • Kindness – being gentle, caring, and helpful to others
  • Generous – willing to share and give to others
  • Deserve – to have earned something by being good

Asking Questions (Interrogative Sentences)

  • We often use questions to understand a story better. Questions begin with question words:
  • Who – asks about a person
  • What – asks about a thing or idea
  • When – asks about time
  • Where – asks about a place
  • Why – asks about a reason
Example 1

Who is Madhu?

Example 4

Example 5

(She makes the wish because she cares about others.)

Writing a Wish

  • A wish sentence often starts with:
  • "I wish ..."
  • "I hope that ..."
  • "My wish is ..."

Common mistakes

  • Do not forget the question mark at the end of a question. Write "What is your wish?"
  • Do not say "Madhu's wish are kind." Say "Madhu's wish is kind."
