Doing things we enjoy is called fun! Activities like playing, singing, dancing, drawing, and reading make us happy. When we talk about fun activities, we use special words called action words (verbs) and describing words (adjectives).
Fun Activities
- Here are some common fun activities children enjoy:
- Playing in the park
- Singing songs

- Swimming in a pool
Action Words (Verbs) for Fun
Action words tell us WHAT we do:
run, jump, play, sing, draw, dance, swim, fly, skip
It is fun to skip in the garden.
("Skip" is the action — it tells what we do for fun.)
We sing songs together. It is a lot of fun!
("Sing" is the action word here.)
The children dance to the beat of the drum.
("Dance" is the action word. Notice "children" is plural, so we say "dance" not "dances".)
It is fun to draw pictures of animals.
("Draw" tells us the fun activity.)
My friends and I swim in the pool on hot days.
("Swim" is the action. "My friends and I" is plural, so we use "swim" not "swims".)
Describing Words (Adjectives) for Fun
- Describing words help us say MORE about the fun:
- It is great fun!
- Swimming is cool and refreshing.
- Singing is joyful and exciting.
Rhyming Words
- Fun words often rhyme! For example:
- fun / run / sun
- play / day / say
- sing / ring / swing
Common mistakes
- Do not say "We plays" when talking about a group. Say "We play."
- With he/she/it (one person), add "s": "She sings." "He jumps."
Summary
Fun activities like playing, singing, dancing, drawing, and swimming make us happy. We use action words to talk about what we do and describing words to say how the activity feels. With "I/We/You/They", use the base verb; with "He/She/It", add "s" to the verb.
