The Smart Monkey

Have you ever been in a tricky situation and thought your way out of it? Sometimes being smart is better than being strong! This is exactly what the story of the smart monkey teaches us.

About Monkeys

Monkeys are intelligent animals. They live in forests and trees. They are quick, playful, and very curious. Monkeys use their hands and feet to climb trees with ease. They eat fruits, leaves, and nuts. Monkeys live in groups called troops.

The Story: The Smart Monkey

Once upon a time, a monkey lived near a river. A crocodile also lived in the same river. The crocodile's wife wanted to eat the monkey's heart, as she believed it would taste very sweet. So the crocodile made friends with the monkey and one day asked the monkey to sit on his back. He told the monkey he would take him to a beautiful island where lots of fruit grew.

When they were in the middle of the river, the crocodile told the monkey the truth — that he was going to give the monkey's heart to his wife. But the monkey was very smart! He quickly thought of a plan.

The monkey said, "Oh dear! I left my heart on the tree back on the shore. I keep it there for safekeeping. Take me back and I will get it for you!"

The foolish crocodile believed this and turned back. As soon as the monkey reached the shore, he jumped off and climbed the tree. He told the crocodile, "I can never trust you again. No animal keeps its heart outside its body!"

The crocodile went away, ashamed of being tricked.
