My Bicycle

A bicycle is a vehicle with two wheels. We use our legs to make it move by pressing the pedals. Riding a bicycle is great exercise and a lot of fun!

Parts of a Bicycle

  • A bicycle has many important parts:
  • Wheels – two round wheels that help the bicycle move
  • Pedals – we press these with our feet to go forward
  • Handle – we hold this to steer left or right
  • Seat – we sit here while riding
  • Bell – we ring this to warn others
  • Brakes – we press these to slow down and stop

Action Words (Verbs) with Bicycle

When we talk about a bicycle, we use action words like: ride, pedal, steer, ring, stop, park.

Example 1

I ride my bicycle to school every day.
(The word "ride" tells us what we do with a bicycle.)

Example 2

She rings the bell to warn the dog.
(The word "rings" tells us the action of using the bell.)

Example 3

He pedals fast up the hill.
(The word "pedals" tells us the action of using the pedals.)

Example 4

We steer the bicycle with the handle.
(The word "steer" means to guide the direction.)

Example 5

I park my bicycle near the gate.
(The word "park" means to keep the bicycle in one place.)

Describing a Bicycle

  • We can use describing words (adjectives) to tell more about a bicycle:
  • My bicycle is red and shiny.
  • It has big wheels.
  • The seat is very soft.

Common mistakes

  • Do not say "I am ride a bicycle." Say "I ride a bicycle."
  • Do not say "bicycle have two wheels." Say "A bicycle has two wheels."
