Staying Healthy and Happy

Being healthy means our body is strong and we do not fall sick often. Being happy means we feel good inside. Good health helps us play, learn, and enjoy every day.

Good Habits for a Healthy Body

  • Keeping clean:
  • Take a bath every day to keep your body clean and fresh.
  • Brush your teeth in the morning and at night to keep your teeth strong and free from germs.
  • Wash your hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet.
  • Cut your nails regularly so dirt does not collect under them.
  • Keep your hair clean and combed.
  • Eating right:
  • Eat healthy food like fruits, vegetables, dal, and milk every day.
  • Drink enough clean water throughout the day.
  • Avoid eating too many sweets, fried foods, and junk food.
  • Resting and sleeping:
  • Sleep for about 8 to 10 hours every night. Sleep helps our body rest and repair itself.
  • Rest when you feel tired.
  • Being active:
  • Play outdoors, run, jump, and exercise every day. Exercise makes our muscles strong and our heart healthy.
  • Yoga and stretching also keep the body flexible and healthy.

Keeping Our Surroundings Clean

  • Health is not just about our body. We should also keep our home and school clean.
  • Do not throw rubbish on the floor. Use a dustbin.
  • Keep your study table, bag, and uniform tidy and clean.
  • Do not spit or throw waste in open places.

What to Do When You Feel Sick

If you feel unwell — have a fever, cold, or stomach pain — tell your parent or teacher right away. Do not go to school when you are sick so that others do not catch your germs. Take medicines only when a doctor advises.

Being Happy

  • Our feelings matter too! We feel happy when:
  • We spend time with family and friends.
  • We play and laugh.
  • We help others and are kind.
  • We do activities we enjoy, like drawing, singing, or dancing.

When we are sad or angry, it is good to talk to a trusted person — a parent or teacher — about how we feel.

Common mistakes

Some children think that if they are not sick, they do not need to follow healthy habits. But healthy habits like brushing teeth, bathing, and exercising should be followed every day, not just when we feel unwell.

Summary

  • Good personal hygiene — bathing, brushing, and washing hands — keeps our body clean.
  • Eating healthy food, drinking water, and sleeping well keep us strong.
  • Exercise and outdoor play keep our body active.
  • Keeping our surroundings clean prevents illness.
  • Talking about our feelings and spending time with loved ones keeps us happy.
