Staying Healthy and Happy

Being healthy means our body and mind are both feeling good. When we are healthy, we can play, learn, and enjoy every day. Good health comes from eating well, exercising, sleeping enough, staying clean, and being happy inside.

Keeping Our Body Clean

Cleanliness is one of the most important habits for good health. Germs — tiny living things too small to see — can make us sick. We can keep germs away by:

  • Bathing every day to remove dirt and germs from our skin
  • Brushing teeth twice a day — morning and before bed — to prevent tooth decay
  • Cutting nails regularly because dirt hides under long nails
  • Washing hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet
  • Wearing clean clothes every day

Exercise and Play

Our body needs movement to stay strong and healthy. Exercise makes our muscles strong, keeps our heart healthy, and gives us energy.

  • Activities that are good exercise for children:
  • Running, jumping, and skipping
  • Swimming and cycling
  • Playing games like kho-kho, kabaddi, and football
  • Yoga and stretching in the morning

Even 30 minutes of outdoor play every day is very good for the body.

Rest and Sleep

  • Our body repairs itself while we sleep. Children need about 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night. Good sleep helps us:
  • Grow properly (the body releases growth hormones during sleep)
  • Remember things we learned in school
  • Feel cheerful and energetic the next day

Going to bed at the same time each night and waking up at the same time creates a healthy routine.

Feeling Happy

  • Health is not only about the body — it is also about the mind and feelings. We feel happy when we:
  • Spend time with family and friends
  • Do activities we enjoy (drawing, reading, playing)
  • Help others and share
  • Talk about our feelings when something bothers us

It is normal to feel sad or angry sometimes. Talking to a trusted adult like a parent or teacher helps us feel better.

Common mistakes

Some children think watching TV or using a phone instead of sleeping is harmless. Screen time before bed actually makes it harder to fall asleep. Also, skipping bathing or brushing teeth because of hurry can lead to illness and tooth problems over time.

Summary

  • Cleanliness habits like bathing, brushing teeth, and washing hands prevent illness.
  • Exercise every day keeps the body strong and fit.
  • Children need 8-10 hours of sleep for proper growth and energy.
  • Happiness and mental well-being are as important as physical health.
  • Healthy habits formed now will last a lifetime.
